Art Bytes invites Schools Across England to Celebrate Creativity
Art Bytes is a new, national programme for primary, secondary and SEND schools, combining an inter-school art competition with bespoke virtual gallery technology.
Arts Connect is proudly partnering with cultural venues across England including The New Art Gallery Walsall. As well as lending their expertise in arts education, The New Art Gallery Walsall will host a celebration event every June. Arts Connect is also honoured to have representatives from the National Society for Education in Art & Design (NSEAD), The Big Draw and Access Art on the judging panel.
Schools that participate in Art Bytes will be able to not only raise the profile of art and design in their own school, but also to students’ families and the wider community. The accessibility of the format allows children and young people to see art galleries as places “for them”, building their confidence and developing cultural capital.
To help nurture these skills and inspire the next generation of creative professionals, Arts Connect has built a Virtual Curator tool for young people to have a go at curating their own online exhibition! Design your exhibition here: then share your creations on social media!
Art Bytes is open to all Primary, Secondary and SEND schools in England. Schools can find out more and register here until the end of December 2021.

Grimm Tales
15th and 16th December, 19:00; Matinee: Thursday 16th December, 13.30
First year students from the Acting and Theatre, Music, and Music Education courses have collaborated to stage Steampunk versions of three of Grimms’ fairy tales: Rumpelstiltskin; Ashputtel; and The Musicians of Bremen. Musicians and actors all play a variety of characters and instruments in an eclectic and irreverent performance style that integrates live music and sound effects. Join the knowledgeable team for tours of the wonderful Garman Ryan Collection including Monet, Van Gogh, Gauguin and Rossetti.
Works explored vary each month.

Meet in the main hall of the Garman Ryan Collection Galleries on Floor 1. Talks last approximately 60 minutes.
Walk and Draw: Saturdays, 11am-12.30pm

Join artist Tess Radcliffe for these monthly, fast paced and fun workshops. Make speedy sketches of artworks in the Collections and temporary exhibitions, the Gallery’s architecture, the magnificent views from the Gallery’s windows, and the local area, including the wildlife along the canal, public sculptures and historical buildings along the high street.
The focus will vary each month, therefore attendees are welcome to book onto all sessions, but this is not necessary.
Sessions will incorporate the five ‘Ways to Wellbeing’: take notice, be active, learn, connect and give. No prior experience of drawing is necessary. All drawing materials are provided.
The sessions are accessible for mobility scooters and wheelchair users. Please wear suitable attire and bring an umbrella for venturing outside. This is an 18+ event.

Andrew Clayton has been commissioned to lead development of a schools’ musical theatre piece exploring themes of sport, self-worth, identity, inclusion and community. Development seed funding has been granted from a local fund, but Andrew is interested in partnering with schools once the framework of the piece is in place. Obviously it ties to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, Winter Olympiad and Paralympics, the imminent Ashes series, Six Nations, and f rankly everything from Chess to Curling, Horseracing to Hockey and Golf to Gymnastics. Oh, and do we have a football thing in Qatar next summer? The working title of the piece is ‘Personal BEST’.
