What is Yam From Here?
Yam From Here is a multimedia project funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, which tells the story of the diversity of the Black Country through the perspectives of those who call it home.
Why Yam?
The title of the project is inspired by the Black Country dialect term ‘Yam’ from ‘Yow am’, meaning you are. Looking at who composes ‘being from here’ in the twenty-first century we want to see how people of various background have come to make the Black Country their home.
Why the Black Country
Migration is at the root of the Black Country story, with many people migration to the area during the Industrial Revolution in pursuit of newfound work in mines, foundries, factories, and mills. Since the end of Empire, the Black Country has maintained its position at the destination of many more journeys.
